What's an arpeggio on the violin?
Q. I have playing test in a few weeks and one of the things I have to play is 3 octive G major and arpeggio. What notes am I supposed to play for an arpeggio?
Asked by Rina - Wed Apr 16 22:49:58 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. An arpeggio is the notes of a chord played one at a time. A G major chord is G, B, and D. So for a 3-octave arpeggio, starting on the open G string, play G, B, D, g, b, d, g', b' d' .

Asked by Summer - Sat May 16 23:42:34 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Fb is the same as E (this is called an enharmonic... the same note with a different name). All you need to do is play from E-E (an octave above) and play every note in between (E F F# G G# etc). With the arpeggio, assuming they're asking for a major arpeggio, it would be E G# B E and then back down. What course is this for? Seems a little odd!

A. Lisa posted this one incorrectly... "Eb Gb B Dbb Eb Gb B Dbb Eb= fully" First of all diminished 7th arpeggios are for minor scales, so you are refering to f#, b and eb minors. Instead of telling you each note, let me explain to you the diminished 7th chord. Take the leading tone of each of your scales - one semitone down from the tonic, then begin to build a 4 note chord stacking minor 3rds on top of one another. If you to this correctly you will find that there are only 3 diminished chords in total. So for f# minor, the leading tone is E# Stack minor 3rds above E# You will get E#-G#-B-D R.H. Fingering for this for two octaves is: 12341234543214321 L.H. Fingering is - 54321432123412345 On to b minor... leading tone is A# Stack… [cont.]

Q. Do you view the trinity as a straight chord or an arpeggio?
Asked by civis totius mundi - Tue Sep 15 23:57:46 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Neither. I view it as an unbiblical teaching borrowed from a pagan religion and introduced in a modified form to Christianity in the second century by a man named Montanus. It didn't become official teaching until the 4th century, and directly contradicts the teachings of scripture. So little support was there in the Bible, that late manuscripts of the Latin Vulgate actually added a verse to try to support the teaching. Scripture never claims God is three. It says repeatedly that He is one, and refers in Job to His Person (not persons). In Jesus is all the fullness of God in flesh, not one third of it. (Col. 2:9)

Are there any full range scale/arpeggio books for sax?
Q. as in, scales and arpeggios that start at low Bb end at high F# (or higher for altissimo.) I find myself writing out the whole range to learn them faster, so a book with them already written full range would be really kicka-s-s. aebersold sucks.

What is the diminished seventh of D# minor, arpeggio form?
Q. Also, please teach me how to figure out diminshed sevenths for other scales :) ...because I don't practise my flute too much and I've forgotten what they are. help will be greatly appreciated!!
Asked by Yoru L - Thu Aug 20 02:54:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The diminished seventh of a scale always starts on the leading note (seventh degree) of the scale. In your case, it is C double sharp. So it starts on C double sharp. A diminished seventh is built on a minor third, diminished fifth, and a diminished seventh above the root (hence the name diminished seventh) The notes then are: C double sharp, E sharp, G sharp, B natural. So for diminished sevenths of other minor scales, just follow the rule of how it is made. Hope this helps!

is it possible to pick any guitar chord and turn it into a arpeggio?
Q. trying to learn arpeggios...
Asked by Drum Dude - Mon Dec 1 19:17:30 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. In music, an arpeggio, by definition, is a broken chord where the notes are played or sung in sequence, one after the other, rather than ringing out simultaneously. The word, like many other musical terms, originates from Italian, in which it means "in the manner of the harp". So, yes, any chord can be arpeggiated or become an arpeggio.

What is a Guitar Arpeggio?
Q. I have been told I should practice them but I have seen lots of different things about them. The definition I found is a 'broken chord' where you play each note on the chord individually in quick succession. Please someone with guitar experience help me. Thanks!
Asked by Bryan H - Sun Nov 8 22:11:33 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That definition is right on, i'd say. You're just taking a chord (try e or c for an easy one) and playing the invidiual strings in a pattern. Listen to the opening guitar of "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Sknyrd for a good example

Asked by carlos c - Mon Sep 15 20:26:08 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is a selection available at Sheet Music Plus: and I don't blame you for liking the piece. Schubert wrote it not for the cello, but for the arpeggione. That was an instrument which was recently invented, but enjoyed a brief lifespan because not enough composers wrote for it. Schubert did, but not very many other composers. However, the instrument was played somewhat like a cello and sounded somewhat like a cello, so that is what instrument it is played on today.
