What are some good accompaniments/side dishes to chilled sour cherry soup?
Q. Something that goes well with the flavor, of course. I'm looking at a variety of recipes right now since this is the first time I've tried it, but I've had it before and it's a very pronounced cherry, sweet-sour taste. It was also served with cream fraiche.

A. How does the soup taste? I love sour cherries, but I never heard of this soup. Will you please post the recipe in your question? Thanks... I am not sure what is good for this soup, but basically soups are always accompanied by a piece of bread or crackers. I suggest you to try it with a fresh peace of bread or butter crackers.

What are some good songs with piano accompaniments?
Q. I've been playing piano for 12 years, and I'm just getting into accompaniments for songs (I'm mostly looking for country music here, but I like some others too). Anyway, I was wondering if you have any ideas (my current 2 favorites are You're Not Sorry by Taylor Swift and Love Song by Sara Bereilles, I like them because they repeat which would be nice, but they don't HAVE to.)

What's the best book that contains guitar accompaniments to jazz standards?
Q. I'm interested in actual music notation not just chord changes.
Asked by TOM MMMM - Sat Oct 25 11:16:49 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You'd have to find either artist specific books or transcriptions of them, the melodies (especially for guitar) are really hard to find. Besides, transcription is the best exercise for your ear.

What do Keyboard Accompaniments do?
Q. I am learning Keyboard, and what do Accompaniments do to help you play the music?
Asked by Z - Sun Aug 24 20:38:31 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. An "accompaniment" is simply the chords and bass line and other stuff you play to back up or play along with or accompany a singer. IOW, when someone is singing a song, a good keyboard player doesn't play the melody along with them. You usually want to play a steady rhythm using the chords of the song, usually with a bass line in the left hand and chords in the right hand, in a way that fits the style of the song and makes the singer sound good. Being able to read a "lead sheet" to find out the chords for the song, or being able to figure out the correct chords by ear, and make up a good accompaniment part using those chords in a stylistically appropriate way, is a major part of being a good keyboard player.

A. Couscous is pasta formed into small balls. It can be 'cooked' by putting it in a bowl, cover with boiling water or stock and allow it to stand for about 10 minutes. It has no flavour and needs to be spiced up with chopped herbs, ground spices and lemon or lime juice. You can use bulgur wheat the same way. Twice the stock/water to the amount of bulgur. Traditionally from North Africa, couscous is usually an accompaniment to a stewed leg of lamb and vegetables such a s peppers and aubergine. Often flavoured with mint and/or cummin. I think we all might owe someone an apology - is there really a medicinal plant called khus-khus - or are you having us on? Sorry guys, its ground up poppy seed and I've no idea what you eat it with!

A. Cranberry jelly usually goes with it. But I suspect you'll have that with your main course, so won't want to serve it twice. Try a different fruit jelly. Redcurrant jelly would be a good choice.

Is there a list of good accompaniment notes to every major note in the piano?

A. Those aren't called major notes, the word for the white keys is 'natural.' Sharps and flats go by the name 'accidentals.' If by accompaniment notes you mean harmonies, that is entirely too broad a subject to even begin to answer in the limited space and time that we have here. People spend years of their lives dedicated to learning that very thing, and to think you can get an actual helpful answer here is a little bit crazy. If by accompaniment notes you mean different instruments, that's also a broad subject, but somewhat approachable. Personally, I prefer my piano music to be piano only most of the time, but that depends on my mood. The double bass fits particularly well, percussion never hurt anybody, throw some brass in there and… [cont.]

A. You can use ANY music video posted on YouTube for this one where there's a soloist and pianist as the accompaniment! Watch the interaction between the performer and the accompanist--the physical gestures that indicate continuing through different movements, tempo, time changes, and the like. I also suggest you find videos between performers that have limited physical movements in terms of cues--like a bass clarinetist or tubist. Watch to see if you can spot any physical cues that are not "standard." For example, I'm a bass clarinetist and instead of head bobs to cue a downbeat, I take an audible breath and move my instrument slightly to the side. YouTube has an endless wealth of videos of classical performers. Type in a search and get… [cont.]

How do I play the accompaniment instead of the melody?
Q. I'm very used to playing the melody by ear and so naturally that's what I play when I want to learn a song. But if I want to sing along, can I still sing with the melody? Or must I sing with the accompaniment and how do I play that? Eg. Left hand, right hand? Could you give me some tips? Thanks!

A. I would try to learn the chords of the song, when you know the melody try to figure out the chords. So when you sing you can make up an accompaniment, either being just block chords or a made-up piano part. thats what I would do.
